Five New Members Join Legacy Foundation Board of Directors

Merrillville-based Legacy Foundation is proud to announce the appointment of five new members to its Board of Directors. John Freyek, Vice President/ Senior Relationship Manager, First Merchants Bank; Heather Garay, Director of Financial Operations for the Energy Division, Leonardo Companies; Chris Salatas, Northwest Indiana Regional Director for U.S. Senator Todd Young; Sophia Stratton, CPA, Chief Financial Officer of Levy Family Partners LLC (LFP); and Richard Young, CPA, Swartz Retson & Co. join the community foundation for Lake County, Indiana.

The new slate of board members brings a diverse set of skills including financial and community experience that will help them steward the foundation’s $60 million assets. Board members give final approval for all grant and scholarship distributions and participate in planning sessions for community programs to ensure they are consistent with the organization’s mission.

Board members support the mission of Legacy Foundation, which is to build a culture of philanthropy across generations that positively transforms Lake County. It is the Board’s responsibility to provide counsel and guidance in the direction and operation of Legacy Foundation, as well as it is to raise awareness of Legacy’s services in the community. Legacy Foundation board members serve terms of three years and can serve up to three terms.
