TEDx CountyLineRoad set for Thursday in Hobart

tedx-county-line-road-logoThe media is invited to attend Northwest Indiana’s first TEDx conference – TEDx CountyLineRoad – from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at County Line Orchard, 200 S. County Line Road, Hobart, IN 46342

Speakers for the sold-out event include LaPorte Mayor Blair Milo, Faith Church senior pastor Bob Bouwer, prominent economist Brian Wesbury, and Excellence by Design owner Norma Williams. Videos of their talks will be posted on the TEDx CountyLineRoad website for the world to see a few days later.

A volunteer group of young professionals, community leaders and stakeholders from Lake and Porter counties organized TEDx CountyLineRoad, a half-day event for an exclusive audience of 100. This group – many of the same activists who have worked to extend the South Shore rail line through Dyer – wanted bright minds to present world-changing ideas that inspire and provoke meaningful conversations.

“We worked as a team to bring compelling speakers who will motivate our first TEDx group to move the needle forward in Northwest Indiana,” said curator Celina Weatherwax. “This truly is a unique event for our region, and we hope these efforts will be the catalyst for our local residents.”

TED is a global set of conferences where experts share "Ideas Worth Spreading." The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences. At TEDx events, a combination of live presenters and TED Talks videos sparks deep conversation and connections at the local level.

Many of the TEDx CountyLineRoad attendees are excited for the Nov. 13 event.

“I have been watching TED videos online for years and have never been disappointed, regardless of the topic. It will be exciting to see what the influential people of Northwest Indiana have to offer TEDx,” said Hobart High School teacher Alex Ramos, who plans to attend TEDx CountyLineRoad.

All media is invited to take part in this historic first TEDx experience in Northwest Indiana. The organizers hope to make TEDx CountyLineRoad an annual event.

“We want to get the ball rolling toward measured change in our home – Northwest Indiana,” said Matt Saltanovitz, curator. “TEDx stood out in the group’s mind as the way to provide a forum for critical thinking to compel our community to transform our collective future.”

The Times Media Co., Lake Area United Way, United Way of Porter County, NIPSCO, Burke Constanza & Carberry LLP and Task Force Tips are sponsoring the event.
