The galleries and merchants of the Uptown Arts District in Michigan City are continuing the tradition started in 2010: The Art Galleries and businesses mentioned below will be open on First Friday February 5, from 5pm (CST) until 8pm or later. In addition to the list below several other venues will be open and things are happening. And don’t forget about the districts many new restaurants!
Art Galleries featuring new exhibits are the Lubeznik Center for the Arts (101W 2nd street) opening reception of “Abstruse Daydreaming” textile installations by Meredith Setser and abstract paintings by Jay Zerbe and “Placebo” featuring interactive sculptures by Jonah Oritz and the Southern Shore Art Gallery (724 Franklin) with the opening reception of “DREAMCATCHERS” Native American Art produced by the Native American Circle at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, proceeds of which will go to Camp “new Happenings”.
Also Open in the district are Urban Soles (624 Franklin) welcoming artists Kim Yettaw of Nest Number 4, Chris Acton of Acton Creatives and Eric Thompson of Thompson's Tables, Hoity Toity (731 Franklin) with artwork for every decor and every budget available, The Nest (803 Franklin) featuring artist N_Drew (Andrew Bucksbarg) with his “Noizical Instruments” interactive exhibit inviting you to come play.
Dh2w Architecture will be open for those interested in learning from resident architect Roger Potratz what an architect does and Uptown Portraiture Collective is featuring a “Retrograde Vintage Pop-Up Shop” with stylist Alexandra.
For entertainment after the artwalk head to Maxine’s Restaurant (521 Franklin) where jazz singer Patti Shaffner and her band will be entertaining patrons.
