Fireworks Postponed to Friday, July 5

DUNELANDFIREWORKSDue to the prediction of high waves on Lake Michigan this evening, the Fireworks on the Lakefront event has been postponed to Friday, July 5. All festivities will continue as planned that evening, including fresh food merchants and live music starting at 6:00 pm; and bus transfers from Yost Middle School and Chesterton Middle School to Porter Beach from 5:00 – 7:30 pm. The fireworks will be set off beginning at 9:15 pm.

“Our fireworks for this event are set off from a barge that sits 300 feet from shore. If there are swells over four feet high at that location, there is a real risk of the barge capsizing. While we regret having to postpone the event, the safety of those on the barge must come first,” says Heather Ennis, Executive Director of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce. “Tonight, there’s a strong prediction of four-to-seven foot swells, so we had to make the call to postpone until our rain-date, which is this Friday, July 5.”
