Fire Prevention Week Tips

For over one hundred years, The Michigan City Fire Department has been teaching the citizens of Michigan City and the surrounding area about fire and home safety.

From station tours, public displays, visits to schools, day cares and assisted living, the members of the department wants everyone to remember and practice fire and home safety.

October 7, 2012 through October 13, 2012 is fire prevention week… PLEASE PRACITCE… EDITH drills (exit drills in the home), check smoke and carbon dioxide detectors.

Fire and Safety tips for the week:

October 7th Don’t overload electrical outlets.
Limit use of extension cords.

October 8th Keep pan handles turned to the rear of stove top, use back burner when possible.

October 9th Never leave small children alone in bathtubs or sinks.
This a common potential drowning hazard.

October 10th Check bath temperature before immersing small children and the elderly.
This may cause scalding or overheating.

October 11th Wash hands often.
Reduces the spread of germs.

October 12th Use care when taking food from stoves, ovens, or microwaves.
Food can spill causing burns.

October 13th GET OUT!! …..STAY OUT!!… in case of fire NEVER go back in for anything!!
