Fazekas Named to 2015 IndyStar.com Indiana Boys All-Stars

marquette-fazekasFourteen players led by Mr. Basketball Caleb Swanigan of Homestead have been selected for the 2015 IndyStar.com Indiana Boys All-Stars.

A 6-9 forward, Swanigan received 177 votes in the Mr. Basketball balloting to capture the top individual honor for the state's boys' basketball players. Ryan Cline of Carmel collected 69 votes to finish as runner-up for Mr. Basketball. Harris Brown of Indianapolis Howe was third with seven votes. A total of 373 votes were cast.

Swanigan previously was chosen Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year. He also was picked to play in the 2015 McDonald's All-American Game and the 2015 Jordan Brand Classic national all-star game. The Michigan State recruit averaged 22.6 points, 13.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a senior in leading Homestead to a 29-2 record and the Class 4A state championship.

Swanigan headlines a 14-member group of senior All-Stars who will play four games in June -- two exhibitions against the Indiana Junior All-Stars as well as home-and-home contests against the Kentucky All-Stars.

Others chosen to the 2015 Indiana Boys All-Stars are Cline, Brown, Devin Cannady of Mishawaka Marian, Ryan Fazekas of Marquette Catholic, Matt Holba of Guerin Catholic, Sean McDermott of Pendleton Heights, Joel Okafor of Richmond, Jaelan Sanford of Evansville Reitz, Derrik Smits of Zionsville, Josh Speidel of Columbus North, Tahjai Teague of Pike, K.J. Walton of Brownsburg and Ryan Welage of Greensburg.

The head coach for the 2015 Boys All-Stars will be Brent Chitty of Columbus East. He will be assisted by Jason Groves of Triton and Brian Satterfield of Hamilton Southeastern.

The Indiana Boys All-Stars will play two exhibitions against the Indiana Junior All-Stars, June 8 at Richmond and June 10 at Columbus North. The Indiana All-Stars also will face the Kentucky All-Stars on June 12 at Transylvania University in Lexington and June 13 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

All four dates will be doubleheaders with the Indiana Girls All-Stars.

The Indiana All-Stars program was founded in 1939 when the Indiana Boys All-Stars played the state champion Frankfort Hot Dogs. The series with Kentucky began in 1940, and the girls portion of the All-Stars was added in 1976.

The Indiana portion of the All-Star Games is organized and produced by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. The Indianapolis Star, with its IndyStar.com brand, is a title sponsor and Best Choice Fieldhouse is a presenting sponsor.

Mr. Basketball is selected through a balloting process of coaches and media overseen by game organizers from the IBCA. The remainder of the team is finalized by All-Star game director Charlie Hall after observing numerous games and events throughout the season, conferring with coaches, school officials and media across the state and reviewing votes submitted by coaches and media who each can recommend up to 12 players.
