Horizon Bank’s $25,000 gift goes to support the Blessed Maria Theresia Bonzel Community Room, a meeting space on the hospital’s first floor. NIPSCO’s $25,000 gift supports the Dunes Café, the hospital’s dining area.

Members of the media are invited to attend an event celebrating these contributions. The Franciscan Health Foundation is hosting the event at 3 PM, Friday, Feb. 15 in the Bonzel Community Room at the new Franciscan Health Michigan City hospital at the northwest corner of Interstate 94 and U.S. 421. Prior to the event, at 2:30 PM, NIPSCO will present a check for the hospital’s participation in its energy efficiency program.

“We look for programs and partnerships that are meaningful to the local community and the company. The Dunes Café is a project that makes sense. The new Michigan City hospital will serve many community members, and NIPSCO is pleased to be a partner with Franciscan Health,” reads a portion of the dedication plaque in the café.

On its dedication plaque, Horizon writes, “Contributing to the betterment of the communities we call home is a value deeply rooted in Horizon’s culture. It is this value and supporting actions that have resulted in a philanthropic history that dates back to 1873 when Horizon first established in Michigan City, Indiana. Horizon proudly supports the vision of Franciscan Health and their dedication to addressing the healthcare needs in Michigan City and the surrounding communities.”

Franciscan Health Michigan City President and CEO Dean Mazzoni said, “We’re thankful for the generosity of Horizon Bank and NIPSCO. Their sponsorships help support our shared mission of service to the public through spaces that foster community and fellowship.”
