Droid DNA Makes Transition to Android Easy on Verizon Wireless

htc-droid-dna-366x251For the past month or so, I’ve been looking to simplify my life technology-wise. The number of devices I have been using to connect with the rest of the world have left me scatterbrained and I’ve found myself evaluating a few options. Having been a longtime Blackberry Bible-belter, then transitioned to Apple’s system, I’m looking to try the Android universe.

I wanted something big enough for my aging eyes to read at quick glance, so I set out to test the new Droid DNA on the Verizon Wireless network.

I loved the full size screen of the DNA, it is a gorgeous 5-inch super LCD3 screen that offers 1080p video playback and comes with Gorilla Glass. The Gorilla Glass is designed to protect the phone from scratching while staying crystal clear in all lighting situations.

The interface of Google Play, where you select apps, is much more advanced with larger graphics and descriptions than the iTunes store I’ve been used to. All of my favorite go-to apps were there too, with YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and of course the ValpoLife, PortageLife, and LaPorteCountyLife apps, which all available for free and easy download.

One thing I especially noticed was that in more areas where Verizon Wireless says they have 4G and AT&T says they have 4G, the phone truly is faster on Verizon’s network. I think AT&T sometimes says 4G when it is not actually available.

The photo and video camera are good and the photo app offers more built-in choices of filters and tweaks you can make to photos right from their app.

One downside I noticed is that the battery life is less than I am used to with the iPhone by a pretty good amount, but that may be due to the DNA having such a large screen size.

I also really like the vibration feel of entering text that makes the keyboard feel more tactile, which is one of the advantages of the DNA and its 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system.
