In an effort to encourage 3rd grade students in the MCAS district to do their best on Indiana’s high stakes reading test, IREAD3, Delta Kappa Gamma members have assembled small student survival kits.
Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization comprised of retired and currently working female educators.
The “IREAD3 Survival Kits” included Smarties (to boost their test-taking brain power), Hershey Hugs (for all of the hard work they will put into this test), bubble gum (to remind them to fill in all the bubbles completely), Lifesavers (if they feel like they are drowning in information- BELIEVE THAT THEY CAN DO IT!), and a penny (to remind them to have enough “cents” to read each question and all answer choices carefully). These kits were distributed to the eight elementary buildings in the Michigan City Area Schools district.
In addition, all third grade teachers and special education teachers were given a small gift to let them know that Delta Kappa Gamma BELIEVES in their efforts to get students ready for this test. Principals were thanked for their leadership and guidance, and staff members in the elementary buildings were sent best wishes for success on the test.
IREAD3 will take place in MCAS elementary buildings March 12-18.
