Currie Motors Ford of Valpo has sought out opportunities to support the local community since it opened in October of 2015. The dealership makes it a point to give back to the community because, without the community, Currie Motors Ford of Valpo would not be the celebrated cornerstone it is today.
This passion is what drew Events Coordinator and Administrative Assistant Shannon Evans to the team. For her, working for a company that puts time and effort back into Valparaiso and the surrounding areas is a huge perk.
“When we first came into the area, we knew we wanted to have a big charitable car show on Memorial Day Weekend,” Evans said. “One of our salespeople mentioned an organization called Folds of Honor, who provides educational scholarships to families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled in combat. As soon as we learned about them, we knew it was an organization we wanted to support.”
That’s when they met Bob Carnagey, who told them all about Folds of Honor and who also happens to work with the Sapper Six Memorial Run.
“We tend to do our research about an organization before we donate money to it,” Evans said. “We don’t want to put our money towards an organization that only gives 10-20% of its proceeds towards the actual cause.
Over the last few years, Currie Motors Ford of Valpo has helped raise thousands for Folds of Honor, along with many other donations to organizations like local baseball teams, sponsorships to support the local Park District and Chamber of Commerce, and Drive 4Ur School events, which give our schools donations for test drives in brand new Fords.
“Currie Motors Ford of Valpo feels we should be good role models in our community,” Evans said. “We feel compelled to give back.”
This is one of the many reasons Currie Motors Ford of Valpo is a platinum sponsor with Valpo Parks Foundation. The team wants to support the people and organizations that also work to give back to the community. “When you meet people that have been affected by the things you’ve done in a positive way, it’s so rewarding,” Evans said. “Currie Motors Ford of Valpo has shown me the importance of supporting the community and giving back. I love being a part of that mission. It is one of many reasons why I love working for them.”
