For a number of years Healthy Communities of LaPorte County’s Covering Kids and Families Coalition has been housed at the Michigan Township Trustee’s office on 2601 E. Michigan Boulevard. Beginning Monday, September 23rd the Covering Kids and Families Coalition will join their lead agency Healthy Communities of LaPorte County in their 115 E. 4th Street office.
“Housing Covering Kids and Families with our organization simply made the most sense,” said Executive Director Camille Kalil. “This will allow increased opportunities for collaboration with all Healthy Communities programs.”
The Covering Kids and Families move could not have come at a better time. This fall both organizations will be undergoing training to become Certified Indiana Navigators and Certified Counselors for residents seeking application assistance with the Affordable Care Act.
The change will allow the organization to reach more LaPorte County residents that are uninsured and underinsured that did not qualify for Medicaid, Hoosier Healthwise, or the Healthy Indiana Plan.
Covering Kids and Families will continue to have a presence at the Township Trustee’s office. In partnership with Michigan Township Trustee, Rodney Washington, enrollments will continue to be conducted on site.
“We are very pleased at the continued partnership between Rodney Washington, his office, and our coalition,” Kalil said. “His continued generosity means a lot to our organization and to the members of the community that will continue to receive our services at his office.”
