Continuing Dr. King’s Legacy: Helping Others

MLKJ-Persistent-QuestionLife's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'” – Martin Luther King Jr.

On this day that celebrates and remembers a man who fought for civil rights and equality for all, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the perfect time to evaluate our own actions. How are you helping make your neighborhood, your community, your state, your nation, your world a better place for all to live?

All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”

Maybe you volunteer at the local Boys and Girls Club, spending time with kids, our future leaders. Perhaps you help out at the food shelter, donating your time to serve those in need of basic necessities. Or maybe you lend a hand to your neighbor, shoveling the snow in the winter or taking out their garbage every week. Whatever you do to help someone else out, big or small, you are making a difference.

"Everybody can be great because everybody can serve."

Greatness is not found in your job title, how much money you make, the size of your house, the clothes you wear. Greatness is found in your treatment of others, your willingness to give of yourself to better someone else’s situation. Dr. King knew that and fought for people to treat others like they would treat themselves and their own loved ones.

"We must learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools."
