CompressAir is a leader in providing compressed air services and products across Northern Indiana, but its capabilities go far beyond simple sales and service. From custom piping solutions to compressor room customization, CompressAir is a true one-stop shop, equipped to design, install, and service a company’s entire air system.
A common but often overlooked challenge in system design is proper ventilation. For a compressor to run efficiently, it needs a constant supply of fresh, clean air. If a compressor room is inadequately ventilated, the machine can starve for air and create what experts call negative pressure.
“Negative pressure within a compressor room or a facility is a big problem,” Qualified AIR+ Specialist Kent Van Sickle said. “You may have been in a room where you open the door and the air comes rushing in – that’s a sign of negative pressure.”
This can lead to equipment overheating and inefficient operation – lowering your businesses’ productivity and potentially causing costly damage. It also forces the system to pull air from inside the plant, which can often be filled with contaminants from manufacturing processes, ones that might involve materials such as coolants or acid tanks. All of it can get inside the compressor and coat its coolers or cause other problems.
To solve this, CompressAir’s team uses sheet metal and other key HVAC materials and tools to design and install complete ventilation solutions. This can involve installing thermostatically controlled louvers on the building to allow more fresh air in, as well as ductwork to properly exhaust hot air. The team is equipped to make any necessary building alterations, whether that means running ductwork through a side wall or up through the roof. The goal is to use cool, clean air from the outside and create positive pressure in the room.
This approach also offers another benefit, heat recovery. CompressAir can design a system that captures the heat generated by the compressor and uses it to help heat the facility during the winter also helping with negative pressure inside the facility, helping to save on energy costs.
CompressAir’s ability to handle an entire project from start to finish provides customers with a smoother experience and better outcome.
“It’s one-stop shopping by an experienced team,” Van Sickle said. “You’re not pointing your fingers at multiple different contractors if something goes awry. It’s better for us to do the whole system when we can, because we know what to look for and what to avoid. We know all the different little things to do, like where to put tie-ins for rental compressors or bypasses for servicing, that really make a system work efficiently.”
This design process also helps businesses plan for the future. Brittany Smith, director of marketing communications, recalled a recent customer project that involved consolidating two separate compressor rooms into a single, new space built for growth.
“It was nice to be able to do the whole project for them because we worked together and came up with an application for this customer, knowing they wanted to be able to grow,” she said. “We were able to give them pointers and suggest things so that they were prepared for the future.”
