On November 14th the Bethany Church of La Porte held a Community Matters Benefit Concert at the La Porte Civic Auditorium. They served concessions, collected raffle tickets, and hosted two amazing bands. All the proceeds went to local causes like Jaycees Deserving Children Shopping Tour and Rebuilding Together LaPorte County.

The concert opened with the band High Noon. They were back in town after a tour of radio shows in Kentucky, and glad to help their home county.
“It’s for kids, it’s for the community,” said lead singer Brian Wheatbrook. “Everybody needs help. And if we can do anything to help, it would be an honor.”
Headlining the benefit was up and coming country musician Dylan Scott. He was excited to join LaPorte in a night of charity.
“It’s going to be a great night of country music, and a lot of fun. It’s great to be here,” he said.
Bethany Church’s Outreach Coordinator, Carey Garwood of Garwood Orchard, worked with an artist agency during the church’s annual July event. The agent suggested Dylan Scott for their next big fundraiser. Garwood thought a concert would be a great idea:
“For one, it’s unique. It’s not an auction or a dinner. Two, it reaches a variety of people that are not connected with the church. The goal is to involve the entire community,” she said.
The Church may sponsor the event but the proceeds all go to help people in the neighborhood. Deserving Children will give 600 students a voucher for the Christmas tour this year. The tour includes dinner, a voucher for winter clothes, and a stocking full of small toys. Rebuilding Together LaPorte is an organization that repairs and upgrades several homes a year in the city of LaPorte. It provides relief to the families that would otherwise struggle to keep their homes up to date.
Through the Church's efforts many people have been helped, and many more have been made aware of the great need in our community. They were assisted in sponsoring the benefit concert by Monosol and private donors.
