City of La Porte Park and Recreation offers fall pottery classes

The La Porte Park and Recreation Department is taking registrations for Pottery Classes. Local Artist, Alayna Bublitz, will lead class participants to make functional pottery while learning the proper techniques in throwing clay forms on a pottery wheel or by hand sculpting.

Wheel Throwing Classes will be offered on Wednesday mornings 9-11 a.m., beginning September 1 through October 13 or Thursdays 6-8 p.m. beginning September 30 through November 11. Hand Sculpting classes will be offered Wednesday mornings 9-11 a.m. Cost for these classes is $81 per session. A short Wheel Throwing Class will be offered on Mondays 6-8 p.m. from November 1 through November 29. Cost for the short session of Wheel Throwing will be $60. Beginning September 3 through October 1, a Kids Wheel Throwing Pottery Class will be offered on Fridays 4-5 p.m. Cost of class is $47.

All classes require pre-registration and tend to fill quickly. Call the Park office at 219-326-9600 weekdays 8 a.m.-4 p.m. or stop in at 250 Pine Lake Avenue to register. Classes will all be held in the Ceramics Room of the Civic Auditorium, 1001 Ridge Street. Please use the ramp on Plain Street to enter the building.
