Citizen Science Workshop Offered on Frog Monitoring

Shirley-Heinze-Land-TrustSpencer Cortwright, Biology Professor at Indiana University Northwest, along with staff from Shirley Heinze Land Trust will lead a Frog Monitoring Workshop on Wednesday, February 19 from 7:00pm-8:00pm at the Meadowbrook Conservation Center and Preserve.

The public is invited to attend this free workshop in which they can learn how to help monitor the health of wetlands throughout Northwest Indiana. By monitoring frog populations, citizen scientists can be a critical resource to collect large amounts of data that would otherwise be unattainable.

Participants will learn about characteristics of each species, their preferred habitat, and how to identify their calls. Participants will be given a data collection protocol, survey sheet, and CD with audio frog calls of the various species found throughout the region. New monitors will be assigned a preserve or natural area close to their home to monitor.

The Meadowbrook Conservation Center and Preserve is located at 109 W. 700 N. Valparaiso, IN.

To RSVP, or for more information please call Shirley Heinze Land Trust at (219) 242-8558 and ask for Jim Erdelac or email jerdelac@heinzetrust.org.
