“Christmas in July” Brings Attention to Need for Support Year Round

Christmas-in-July-2013-1Were you surprised to see bell-ringers in mid-July raising money with red kettles? It was just a subtle reminder that The Salvation Army of La Porte provides services all twelve months of the year, not just at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Both food and financial donations drop significantly during the summer months, but needs remain constant for the year.

This year, The Salvation Army of La Porte featured a Christmas in July day to help raise funds to support the food pantry and continuous programs. The event raised approximately $2,800 to replenish financial resources that trickle in during the summer months.

Christmas-in-July-2013-2The Salvation Army of La Porte thanks Barb Hooper for who brought her bell ringing miniature horse, “Libby” to the post office. Also a big thank you to “Santa” who is normally on vacation in July, made appearances at Al’s East and Kabelin’s on the West Side of LaPorte. We also would like to thank our community clown, “Krinkles” who helped us and brought her dog.

Greg Irwin, Pastor and Corps Administrator states, “We cannot possibly say thank you enough for all those who made this possible. Businesses who were gracious to allow us to setup kettles for one day in July and volunteers who covered every kettle for the entire day, and those that donated food for the food pantry. The folks of La Porte, our neighbors and friends, are better off today because of your efforts and support.”
