Check out the First Ever Ford Soccer Skills Challenge!

The Pine Ford Lincoln Dealership hosted the first ever 2013 Ford Soccer Skills Challenge on Saturday morning at Kesling Park in La Porte. They combined their efforts with the La Porte Traveling Soccer Club and iSoccer to make the event possible.

The La Porte Soccer Club is a traveling team that plays all over Northwest Indiana and they have divisions from U8 to U14.

“Today we’ve teamed up with Pine Ford Lincoln to participate in this nationwide event,” Tabatha Kehoe of the La Porte Soccer Club said. “This is the first one and we hope to make it an annual thing. The players can work on individual skills or they can build a team and do team skills. The player with the top score from each bracket can advance on to a regional competition after this.”

The weather was blessedly mild and overcast as the kids and everyone involved spent the entire time outside at the park. The kids were tested on soccer skills such as toe taps, foundations, juggling, dribbling and ball striking. Volunteers from the La Porte High School Soccer Team as well as players from the Bethel College Soccer Team gave their time that day to help the kids with the Skills Challenge. Food and drinks were provided and the participants received cool t-shirts that they wore during the Skills Challenge.

“This is a skills change for kids ages nine to thirteen,” Tom Seely, General Manager of Pine Ford Lincoln said. “This is part of a grassroots effort that Ford is promoting to get involved with the kids of the next generation. We have a good amount of kids out here today and great support from the staff of the La Porte Soccer Club. We do a lot of programs with the kids and this is just another avenue to get kids outside and active and we at Ford see this as a way to give back to the community.”

Pine Ford Lincoln brought out some of their awesome trucks and cars and put them on display for everyone there. And not only were time and vehicles donated to make the event successful, but Pine Ford Lincoln generously donated $500 to the La Porte Soccer Club.

All who attended had a great time and looking forward to next year’s Ford Soccer Skills Challenge.
