The Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana has received a generous grant in the amount of $18,200 from ArcelorMittal to assist teachers and students in attending the center’s space-themed programs, and to assist the center in rolling out its newest program, Earth Odyssey.
The Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana is a space science education center and field trip destination located in Hammond, Ind. The center provides teachers with resources to meet science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum goals and standards, while giving students a chance to put these skills to work during simulated space missions.
The Earth Odyssey mission will focus on climate change and the technology involved in effective Earth observations.
“ArcelorMittal’s unwaivering support demonstrates their commitment to education and the future workforce. Students who visit us could find their place in a spacecraft headed to Mars or at a control pulpit at ArcelorMittal. ArcelorMittal understands the importance of planting the seeds that will grow the workers and leaders of the future through their support of STEM programs like ours,” said Becca Manis, executive director of the Challenger Learning Center.
“Challenger Learning Center is a flagship partner in ArcelorMittal’s community investment focused on STEM education. The programming Challenger executes brings students from all over Indiana an experience that is unparalleled in the region. At Challenger, these students learn design thinking, mission planning, trial and error, and other key skills paramount in STEM fields,” said Marcy Twete, Division Manager, Corporate Responsibility, Americas; and executive director of USA Foundation ArcelorMittal. “ArcelorMittal is proud to continue our long-term partnership with Challenger.”
