Centier Bank Donates $1,000 to Girls on the Run NWI As Part of Women’s History Month

Centier Bank recently presented a $1,000 check to Girls on the Run Northwest Indiana as part of its annual sponsorship to the nonprofit program. The organization’s mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident through a curriculum that incorporates running.

Jill Schlueter-Kim, Executive Director of Girls on the Run NWI, said the organization began in 2007, designed to help girls build confidence and make intentional decisions while fostering care and compassion for themselves and for others.

“Girls face societal pressures and conflicting messages about how they should act and who they should be,” Schlueter-Kim explained. “This past year has seen extra challenges for girls in our demographic, as girls have faced social isolation, anxiety, and more limited opportunities for physical activity. We believe that now more than ever, our evidence-based programming is needed in our community.”

Lauren Zurbriggen, Financial Education Coordinator at Centier Bank, serves on the board for Girls on the Run. She said the annual sponsorship will help support the organization’s participants regardless of their ability to pay.

“Our community donation helps provide financial assistance to over 65 percent of Girls on the Run NWI participants,” Zurbriggen said. “We feel fortunate to be a part of creating a supportive, uplifting, and positive outlet for girls in our community. Eighty-five percent of Centier Bank associates are women, and many of us are also raising young girls. We wholeheartedly support raising tomorrow’s women and contributing to organizations like GOTR that give them the confidence and tools to succeed throughout their lives.”

Schlueter-Kim said the organization is grateful for the partnership with Centier Bank.

“We are proud to be aligned with a locally-owned bank that puts their support of women at the forefront of their mission,” she explained. “Over the years, Centier has provided us with both financial and volunteer support, allowing us to pursue our mission of empowering girls in Northwest Indiana. Lauren is an impactful ambassador of our mission!”

Girls on the Run’s spring season has begun in 10 counties across Northwest Indiana , and they are seeking event volunteers and coaches. Find out more about Girls on the Run NWI at gotrofnwi.org. For more information about Centier Bank, go to centier.com.
