Center for Hospice Care (CHC) is proud to announce Janice Young, RN as the organization’s new Director of Inpatient Units. Ms. Young has been serving CHC since November 2022. Janice has been an RN for over thirty years and has been in management for over twenty-two years.
Janice Young will be an integral part of the Leadership team. She will be responsible for approximately 12 RNs for each Inpatient Unit, as well as 12-13 CNAs for each IPU. She is directly involved in team building, education, monitoring for adherence to the Conditions of Participation set forth by Medicare, and the overall smooth operations of both units. Janice oversees the operations of both Esther’s House in Elkhart and Ernestine M. Raclin House in Mishawaka.
Janice moved to the Region from Apache Junction, Arizona. She worked for a hospice provider in her community in Arizona as a Hospice Admissions Counselor, and she was also in charge of education for the staff. Prior to that she was the IPU Manager for a large hospice in Boulder, CO, the Director of Clinical Services for a home health company in Utah, and the Manager of an Inpatient Unit for a hospice in Nashville, TN. Janice has also worked with pediatric patients and pediatric hospice patients when she was employed in Texas, Colorado, and Arizona.
Janice chose hospice as a profession many years ago because of encouragement she received just after becoming an RN from her very first supervisor at Zale Lipshy University Hospital in Dallas Texas. Janice shares that she loves providing care to patients and their families during such a difficult and trying time. She feels it is an honor to be a part of someone’s life when they have reached the end of their journey. Janice shares that being able to provide comfort, compassion, and education to patients and their loved ones has had an amazing impact on her life.
Janice is a professional vocalist. She sings many different genres of music, but her favorite songs to sing are the old jazz standards. Etta James, Nina Simone, Diana Krall, and Norah Jones are some of her favorite artists. Janice also loves spending time with her daughter and her husband, who lives in Elkhart. She has a German Shepherd named Sammie, she is 3 years old and keeps her very busy.
