Local physician, Dr. Rakesh Gupta, and his wife, Bina Gupta, were honored with "The CREO! during last week’s World Creativity and Innovation Week 2015. The presentation was made last Friday (April 24) at the first "Community Recognition Breakfast," one of many events celebrating everyday innovation in Northwest Indiana.
The annual award, given by the Center for Creative Solutions, Inc.™, recognizes individuals and organizations for their outstanding efforts to encourage a culture of innovation in the community. "CREO!" is a Latin term, meaning "to create." It stands for: Creativity, Regional, Excellence and Originality.
"So you might ask, what might the characteristics of someone who encourages a culture of innovation?" noted Cynthia Hedge, founder and CEO of the Center, as she presented the award. While there are many qualities, she said, some include:
Willingness to risk and to "fail" in order to find the correct answer.
Openness to new ideas.
Flexible thinking including the ability to see things in new ways.
Intellectually curious– asking questions and challenging the status quo.
"This year’s "CREO!" recipients demonstrate these attributes. As a result, they have given others opportunities to tap into their own creativity. They have encouraged a culture of innovation in our community."
Also honored were Sierra Hutchins, Michael Johns and Alexis Valles, students at the A.K. Smith Career Center, located in Michigan City. Each year, the Center recognizes students for their special, innovative efforts in an academic setting, Hedge said. Making the presentation were Dorothy White, President of the Board of Directors for the Center for Creative Solutions, Inc.™, and Audra Peterson, Director of the A.K. Smith Center.
