Center for Creative Solutions, Inc. Announces April 22 Program: Celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Week 2014 in Northwest Indiana

center-for-creative-solutions-incThomas Edison and Nikola Tesla, two geniuses competing for control of the newest technology, electricity. Though over 100 years ago, their rivalry was as fierce as that between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates today.

Tesla’s alternating current became the industry standard– and Edison’s direct current was discarded long ago. Yet today, Edison is admired for his endeavors to electrify every home and business. Ironically, Tesla has almost been forgotten.

On Tuesday, April 22, Edison and Tesla will join the community-wide celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Week. The free, family night will feature exhibits, speakers and activities that underscore the theme, "Energizing Your World."

It will be at LifeWorks, IU Health-La Porte Hospital, 3777 North Frontage Road, Michigan City, from 5 - 7 p.m. The Center for Creative Solutions, Inc.™ is the sponsor of this annual gathering.

Event partners include Ivy Tech Community College Northwest, the Ivy Tech Gerald I. Lamkin Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, the Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana, IU Health-La Porte Hospital,Greater La Porte Area Ministerial Association and La Porte County Public Library.

The evening’s line up starts with a brief program, at 5 p.m. It will feature Edison and Tesla, sharing their views on creativity and innovation. Also, students and regional innovators will be honored for their accomplishments.

Afterwards, everyone is encouraged to enjoy:

Demonstrations by the New Prairie Robotics Team and students from the A. K. Smith Career Center Energy Academy;
A special display sponsored by La Porte Savings Bank;
Free massages;
Complimentary refreshments by Crawford’s Pub and Eatery;
Special exhibits by Lake Hills (STEM) students of Michigan City;
A labyrinth created by Sue Levenhagan;
A special display by the La Porte County Solid Waste District, recognizing Earth Day on April 22;
A tour of the LifeWorks facility featuring the latest medical technology

In addition, several events focusing on World Creativity and Innovation Week are scheduled for April. On April 16, the La Porte County Public Library is hosting "Hello Donuts! a Creative Business Start-up." Here, you will meet the owners of Hello Donuts, two ladies who took the plunge and started their own business. Their creative inspiration was sparked by the many hours they spent baking with their grandma. Stacey Koziel and Sara McLauchlin will explain the unique idea behind their business start-up and the crowd sourced funding idea called Kick Starter. The program starts at 6 p.m. at the library, 904 Indiana Avenue, La Porte.

Then on Saturday, April 12, Ivy Tech Gerald I. Lamkin Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center and the Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana is sponsoring the Northwest Indiana Innovation Expo, Saturday,10 a.m. - 2 p.m., at the Jean Shepherd Community Center, 3031 Mahoney Drive, Hammond. The program is free and open to the public.

Throughout April, La Porte County Museum in La Porte will sponsor a special display, featuring local inventor, Captain Bill Eddy.
