Back in April, you helped us pack the council chambers and advocate for the first steps in the process of relocating the Michigan City Police Department. Now the coucil is "having doubts" about the importance of this project. Failure to approve the next phase of this project will be devastating to our city.

Important facts:
The relocation and construction of a quality police station is vital to move Michigan City forward.
The existing station is 50 years old.
The existing station is in need of updating and repairs to remain functional.
The location of the existing station stands in the way of redevelopment of the North End.
The City Council has agreed that the police department has outgrown its current facility and is in need of a new station.
The City Council supported the transfer of the school property for the station to the city.
The City Council supported demolition of the old Eastport School as the location for a new state-of-the-art police station.
The Redevelopment Commission has made an offer to purchase the former Memorial Hospital property from the city. The proceeds would be used for the design and construction drawings for the new police station.
At the last City Council meeting some members of the city council expressed their opposition to this and voted to table the resolution for allocation of funds for the design of the facility.
It is critical that you attend the February 17 City Council meeting and help continue to move our city forward.
