Business Spotlight: Jazzercise Center on Franklin Street

jazzercise-1Kim Noe is a fitness buff and lifelong participant of sports. She’s taken her craft and molded it from hobby to a Michigan City-based business

Kim owns the Jazzercise Center on Franklin Street franchise, a passion that began roughly 16 years ago.

“I’ve been an athlete all my life, so I’ve always worked out, but not in an organized aerobic program,” Kim explained. “I tried Jazzercise and quickly fell in love with the music fitness program.”

Jazzercise, which offers a fusion of dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing movements al choreographed to the most current music, has positively affected millions of people worldwide.

We took a moment to speak with Kim on her experiences running a community-oriented small business.

Tell us about your small business.

After having my children, it was difficult to find time to work out at home anymore. I joined Jazzercise and was a Jazzercise student for 6 years before becoming certified as an instructor. I have been an instructor for 10 years. We provide a workout environment that is fun, challenging and motivational. Our workouts are all choreographed to the hottest music. We are provided with new music and choreography every 10 weeks, so our classes are always fresh.

What was your biggest challenge in starting your business?

Our biggest challenge is getting the word out about our program and how much fun we have while working out. We encourage people to become active in order to get and stay healthy. We are continually out there selling ourselves. We’re a big part of the community. We want to show what our workout is, how fun our workout is. You never stop. You’re always looking to motivate people and to get them in the door.

How did you hear about Horizon Bank, and how have we helped your business?

I was a partner in another business and our attorney recommended Horizon Bank. He said they were worked well with small businesses, and he was right, they do. I know that I can make a phone call and they know me — and they’re always willing to sit down and work with me. They are convenient, personable and always ready to help me with any questions or concerns I have. All I have to do is ask them.
