Briar Leaf Golf Club to offer kids’ summer golf classes

Learning how to play golf can be intimidating for anyone, no matter their age. Whether someone is just starting out or simply looking to improve, it can be challenging to find a welcoming environment that encourages growth without having an elitist attitude.

Individuals looking to brush up on their golf skills in a friendly, educational environment should look no further than Briar Leaf Golf Club in beautiful La Porte, Indiana. No matter the skill level, Briar Leaf is dedicated to encouraging golfers to grow in their skills and learn to truly love the sport without fear of judgment throughout the learning process.

This summer, the club will be hosting two different four-day classes for individuals from ages five to 17 interested in learning more about golf. Classes will be taught by PGA Professional Jay Williams.

Attendees can choose to participate during one of the four sessions provided. Dates for each session are listed below:

  • Session One: June 14 - 17
  • Session Two: June 21 - 24
  • Session Three: July 19 - 22
  • Session Four: July 26 - 29

For beginners with little to no experience with the sport, a kids’ “First Swing” class will be offered from 8:45 a.m.-9:50 a.m. during each of the sessions. The class will be catered to golfers who have only played a few times and will also touch on golf etiquette and the fundamentals of the game.

More experienced golfers may find their place in the “Players Club” class, where attendees will participate in a scoring-focused course with more attention to on-course play. Golfers interested in this course should be able to play nine holes unaccompanied and should have knowledge of basic golf etiquette and rules prior to taking the class. Each class will occur from 7:30 a.m.-10 a.m.

The club’s state-of-the-art amenities will have players in awe. With a pristine course spanning over 6,500 yards and lessons from a certified instructor, participants are sure to feel right at home in the club from day one.

Preregistration is highly encouraged. There will be an entry fee of $65 per session, but the fee will be raised to $70 if it is paid at the time of the session. To register, email briarleaf@comcast.net or call (219) 326-1992. Players can also stop in at the clubhouse to sign up in person.

Young golfers interested in diving deeper into the world of golf can also look into joining the Junior Practice Club for discounted range balls and the ability to use the practice range.

No matter the experience level or knowledge of the sport, there’s always a spot open at Briar Leaf–especially in one of the educational sessions. Learning how to golf is just the beginning of a developing a lifelong passion for golf, and at Briar Leaf, that passion is the driving force behind every aspect of the golfing experience.
