Boys & Girls Clubs of La Porte County (BGCLPC) is officially “back to afterschool.” After months of adjusting to changing schedules and operating with extended hours during periods of online learning, Club members and staff are happily settling into their new routines.

BGCLPC offers services at Pine Elementary School, Springfield Elementary School and the Charles R. Westcott Club. All Clubs operate from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM daily and provide programming that supports Academic Success, Character & Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles. In recent weeks, Club members have taken part in a wide range of activities including making slime, decorating valentines and creating a virtual museum in recognition of Black History Month.

“Reduced COVID-19 risk levels have made it possible for our friends at Michigan City Area Schools to resume in-person learning, and for us to return to many of the traditional afterschool programs that our Club members and staff enjoy,” says Michelle Shirk, BGCLPC Chief Executive Officer. “As we move into this next phase of serving of kids and families, we feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the amazing community support that has allowed us to evolve as needed over the past year.”
All BGCLPC services are offered completely free of charge. The organization relies on grant funding in addition to annual campaign donations from individuals, businesses and foundations.
“We are so incredibly grateful to our community partners for their help and support through these challenging times,” says David Gately, BGCLPC Board President. “As we look to the future, we are also very encouraged at the possibility of growing these partnerships and increasing our footprint to reach more youth in our county. This is truly an exciting time for BGCLPC and for our kids!”
