Boston Students Adopt Families for the Holidays

Boston Middle School took on the task of adopting fifteen families this holiday season. The fifteen families that were adopted totaled 42 children in all. Per the contract signed with the Salvation Army each family is to receive food for a holiday meal, a ham or turkey, and gifts for each child under the age of 13. The families were divided among the building:

12 children - 6th grade
12 children 7th grade
15 children 8th grade
3 children in the office

Families were asking for various items from underwear, coats, boots, clothing, cleaning supplies and the always popular, toys. The school raised funds through free will donations, penny wars, hat days, treat sales, etc. Parents also sent in gifts.

Once the funds were raised shopping took place. Approximately one hundred dollars was spent on each child. Car seats, diapers, clothing, coats, boots and even bikes were purchased.

Next the gifts were all wrapped and marked for the appropriate chid and family. Wrapping took place in many TA's around the building.

All items then had to be loaded into cars and delivered to the Salvation Army and family homes. Each of the fifteen families received several gifts, a large box of food, a gallon of milk and a five pound ham.
