Boston Middle School Students Get a New Taste of the School’s Media Center

bms-jazz-20158th grade students in Tammy Lipscomb's Reading class took a field trip to Genre Restaurant on Thursday, September 17, but they never left the building. The Media Center was transformed into an eating establishment for Boston Middle School's first-ever book tasting.

Students were greeted by the apron-clad Library Media Specialist Rose Sgambelluri. Lights were dimmed and jazz music was played. There were floweres and candles (battery operated, of course) on the tables. There were also books, lots and lots of books. Students spent five minutes "sampling" each of the four books on the table.

When all of the books were read, the "diners" discussed the books and shared their thoughts with the other participants. It forced students to read something they're not always reading, like biographies, non-fiction, and science fiction, to name a few.
