Boston Middle School Students Celebrating a Drug Free Life

Red-Ribbon-CampaignBoston Middle School will be participating in Red Ribbon Week October 22-26, 2012. Boston’s new club, called Lead and Seed, will be in charge of planning the week’s activities. Lead and Seed is club where the students are in control and teachers are there to facilitate. The students in Lead and Seed make all of the decisions and Boston is proud of what they have come up with for the 2012 Red Ribbon Week!

Monday's theme is “Hair’s to a drug free life!” The students at Boston Middle School will show their spirit by coming to school with crazy hair. Tuesday’s theme is “Smarties don’t do drugs!” Students are asked to “dress like a smarty pants” to show that they are drug free. Finally, Wednesday’s theme is “Black Out Drugs!” Students will show that Boston is drug free by wearing all black. The students who are participating in spirit days will be up for a chance to win a Red Ribbon Week Prize pack. The prize pack contains a water bottle, key chain, pencil pouch, and candy.

Throughout Red Ribbon Week students will be hearing facts about the dangers of drugs on the morning and afternoon announcements. Students will also be receiving a flyer containing the LaPorte High School Safe School Hotline. This is an anonymous tip line that students can call and report any illegal behavior going on in the area. During lunch, Lead and Seed members will be selling Red Ribbon Week bracelets that say “I’ve Got Better Things To Do Than Drugs” and caramel apple suckers with the slogan, “Don’t be a sucker, stick to the good side!”. There will also be a drug and alcohol free pledge banner for all students to sign at lunch. The hallways will have 100 posters; each poster will suggest something to do besides drugs and alcohol. Wednesday, the 24th, all sixth graders will have Detective Jonathan Burger and Sergeant Mike Kellems speak to address them about the dangers of abusing drugs and alcohol. Lead and Seed has been promoting the activities to all students; we expect a great turn-out!
