Boston Middle School History Class Studies the Effects of Slavery

Mrs. DeWolf’s eighth grade U.S. History classes have been studying the lives of former slaves that crafted their freedom. Students studied Henry “Box” Brown appreciating his ability to risk his own life as Brown ships himself to freedom. Some students built replicas of the crate and shared his startling story with fellow classmates. Students learned the horrific life of Elizabeth Keckly and how she crafted her freedom through the skill of sewing. Students hand crafted quilts honoring her brave life.
