Team members followed the state format for solving three different problems that are set in the future. Students competing were: Victoria Lipscomb, Brandon Bellen, Bethany Eyrick and Molly Hodge. Competing in the skit portion were also Miles Jablonski and Ryan Dessart. It is the eighth year in a row Boston students will be attending the State Competition.
The FPS program gives students the opportunity to use their critical thinking skills, learn how to identify problems that are set in future scenes, and examines the world in constructive ways while exploring strategies for the future. The goals of the program are to enhance creative thinking, improve analytical critical thinking, stimulate knowledge and interest in the future, increase communication skills – both written and verbal, assist students to function on a team and guide them to be more self-directed and responsible.
The results of the third problem qualified four of the members of the Boston FPS Team to compete in the State Bowl which was on April 20 in Greenville, Indiana, at Clark Pleasant Intermediate School.
Laura Kwasny is the coach of this team and has been for the past fifteen years. Twelve out of those years her team has made it to State! Four of those eleven times at state her team has placed in the competition: 2013 – Third Place; 2008 – Third Place; 2007 – fifth Place; and in 2006 – Second Place.
