On Wednesday, May 18th, Boston Middle School’s 8th graders helped the LaPorte County Soil and Water conservation District (SWCD) clean up and beautify their conservation garden. The garden is located at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds and is open during Fair Week to thousands of fair attendees. Students helped the SWCD by weeding, painting, mulching, and planting.
This usually takes the SWCD about six weeks before the fair to accomplish these tasks. The 8th graders also participated in a scavenger hunt to learn about native plants and cover crops. The LaPorte County MS4 coordinator spoke to the 8th graders about storm water. The students were treated to a lunch and snacks donated by American Licorice.
