Boston Language Arts Transformed into Poetry Coffee Shop

On December 12th and 13th, the Boston Middle School sixth graders participated in a “Poetry Coffee Shop” experience. Language arts teachers Elizabeth Denton and Tanya Roach transformed their classrooms into coffee shops overnight.

Upon entering language arts class, students were greeted with desks arranged in groups with holiday tablecloths and centerpieces, holiday decorations adorning the walls, and smells of hot chocolate wafting through the air. Student enjoyed hot chocolate and doughnuts while listening to classmates read their authentic poetry that they had created during class the previous week.

The sounds of snapping could be heard as students finished each poem and a good time was had by all. In addition, proceeds from the sale of hot chocolate and doughnuts benefitted the Angel Tree program.
