The Boston Future Problems Solvers competed in the State competition at Clark Peasant Middle School in Greenwood, Indiana on Saturday, April 16th. This is the 14th time (out of 18) that Boston’s team has earned a bid for the state competition.
The FPS program gives students the opportunity to use their critical thinking skills, learn how to identify problems that are set in future scenes, and examine the world in constructive ways while exploring strategies for the future. The goals of the program are to enhance creative thinking, improve analytical critical thinking, stimulate knowledge and interest in the future, increase communication skills – both written and verbal, assist students to function on a team and guide them to be more self-directed and responsible.
Team members followed the state format for solving three different problems that are set in the future. The results of the third problem qualifies four of the team members to compete in the state bowl.
Students attending this year’s State Bowl are:
Lillian Haverstock, Samantha Shei, Stephanie Komasinski, and Grace Murphy.
Assisting in the skit portion of the day were Alex Kring and Zyanya Camacho. The students placed sixth in both the skit and the written problem. The team is coached by Mrs. Laura Kwasny.
