Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa is ready to welcome back the community with open arms and “Boyd Clean” practices to keep visitors and staff safe. The Michigan City casino plans to reopen at 11 a.m., June 15. The property will temporarily operate under capacity restriction in compliance with state directives and will be open from 8-3 a.m. daily. Blue Chip Casino will take the remaining time in which they are closed to further deep clean every surface in preparation for the reopening.

Brenda Temple, Vice President and General Manager of Blue Chip, and the team at Boyd Gaming have set in place the “Boyd Clean” initiative.

“As we prepare to reopen Blue Chip, the health and safety of our guests, team members, and the community will be our highest priority,” Temple said. “Boyd Clean is a set of comprehensive health and safety protocols that fully meet the highest standards set forth by federal, state, and local health officials.”

Some of the Boyd Clean safety protocols will include: mandatory face coverings and temperature checks for all team members, social distancing requirements and capacity restrictions, enhanced cleaning and sanitation of all high-touch surfaces, increased placement of hand sanitizer dispensers throughout properties, and required training for all team members on the newfound safety protocols.

Upon entering the casino, guests will be required to go through thermal temperature testing which is a new technology that detects temperature through thermal imaging. Anyone with a temperature 100.4 degrees and over will not be allowed entry.

“We closed our doors on March 16th and have been planning for this day ever since,” Temple said. “We wouldn’t be opening Blue Chip if we weren’t confident in the measures we have put in place.”

This day has been long awaited by many, especially Temple, who has been one of a select few team members allowed on the property for the past few months. Describing the empty casino as “eerie,” Temple can’t wait to start filling the seats again.

“It feels awesome to be reopening, I can’t tell you,” said Temple. “To see people that I haven’t seen in three months and welcome them back to work and see the smiles on the faces of our guests is what I’ve been waiting for.”
