marquette-boys-basketball-2013-photoThe Marquette Catholic High School boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Wheeler on Monday to participate in the play in game of the Greater South Shore Conference Tournament.

The JV team had no problem dispensing of the host Bearcats as they won easily 70-29. They will return to action on Tuesday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m. when they host Bishop Noll.

The girls basketball team came out ice cold in the first half of their contest and didn't warm-up until late in the third quarter. By then it was too late to put together a comeback as Wheeler won 50-14. The girls now wait to see who wins between Bishop Noll and Wheeler on Tuesday. If Bishop Noll wins, then the Blazers will host the loser of Hanover Central/Whiting on Thursday, January 23. If Wheeler wins, then Bishop Noll will faceoff against the loser of Hanover Central/Whiting.

The boys varsity squad could not buy a bucket early on and it looked like Wheeler was poised for the upset. But the Blazers got it going in the second quarter and were able to extend their lead to double digits in the second half, eventually winning 63-41. The boys will now host Bishop Noll on Tuesday, January 21 at 7 p.m.
