Briar Leaf Golf Club in La Porte, Indiana is Northwest Indiana’s and Southwest Michigan's premier golf club. Briar Leaf is known for premiere memberships, excellent amenities and golf course conditions, delicious food at on-campus restaurants, welcoming community clubs, and PGA professional training.
Briar Leaf Golf Club PGA Professional, Jay Williams, has found Briar Leaf to have one of the most accommodating golf clubs in the Region. The community of players at Briar Leaf knows how to welcome someone new to the club, and Williams emphasizes that newcomers should feel confident coming to Briar Leaf.
“I have always said that it's difficult being the new person. Whether it's at school, a job, whatever, it’s always difficult being a new person,” Williams said. “At Briar Leaf, it's about as easy as it can be to be the new person because our members are super welcoming to new players.”
Williams explained that Briar Leaf offers multiple club meetings throughout the week that are an attractive option for someone looking to find a group of golfers to play with.
“One of the things that I refer to is our men's club,” said Williams. “We may have a guy that joins the club because they don't know anybody, but when they go, they meet three new guys. Next week, they are going to meet three more new guys. I see it happen every year we get these new members who come in and they never get left on the sidelines. If a fella joins the men's club, boom, he's involved and he's making new friends every week.”
It is easy for anyone to join the Briar Leaf family because the golf club offers programs for everyone: men’s clubs, women’s clubs, couples’ clubs. Even kids get sweet deals and support at Briar Leaf!
“Junior Golf has always been a hot button for me, and I have always been really focused on getting young kids into the game,” said Williams. “We offer multiple summer Junior camps for a week long. We have a fall challenge camp. We also have removed the barrier of cost for young people to play golf. High school age and under never pay a greens fee Briar Leaf. That is Monday through Friday and Saturdays and Sundays after 12 o'clock. We have a lot of high school players that take advantage of that. We’re trying to give back to the area. We're trying to encourage young people to play golf, and we're seeing it happening.”
Students can take advantage of membership deals and be trained by PGA Professional Jay Williams and PGA Associate Professional Cody Ward.
Briar Leaf has amazing deals for all ages. They are known for their membership programs that are a one-time fee that gives members access to four golf courses in total.
“The one-time fee covers all your golf, all your carts, and all your range balls for a calendar year. If you join August 1, it goes to August 1 next year. There are no attending costs, no food minimums, no locker room costs, no hidden costs. For example, that allows the member to come out after dinner in the evening and play five holes. They can throw their clubs on a cart, go play five holes, and go home. Members don’t have to feel pressured to play all the holes because they didn’t pay a greens fee. That’s convenient.”
Williams works to ensure that members feel comfortable and welcome at Briar Leaf. He does not want them to feel like this is just another golf course.
“We do not view our members as Season Pass holders. We view them as members of the community,” he said.
