Barker Middle School’s Quarterly “Parent Invite to Lunch” Series Begins with Candy Experiments

Barker-Mansion-Parent-Invite-to-Lunch-2017Barker Middle School's quarterly "Parent Invite to Lunch" was held on Thursday, September 21st, which is organized by Curriculum Coach, Amy Hamann. This event was the first of 4 "Parent Invite to Lunch" occasions for the 2017-2018 school year. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or any adult advocate is invited to come have lunch in the gym with their student. It is a unique opportunity for Barker students to enjoy lunch with an adult and participate in a STEM Challenge.

As a treat, some adults bring in an outside lunch to share with the student. September's STEM Challenge were two candy chemistry experiments to celebrate the upcoming week of October 22-28th which is National Chemistry Week. Participants had to hypothesize what they thought would happen to the candy in each experiment. The remaining three "Parent Invite to Lunch" events will celebrate American Education Week in November, National Engineer's Week in February, and Earth Day in April.
