Barker Middle School Inducts 63 into National Junior Honor Society

Barker-NJHS-Induction-2013Barker Middle School’s John H. Barker Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society welcomed 63 new members at its induction ceremony on May 15 in the school gymnasium. They joined 73 current seventh and eighth graders who were already members.

Leading the ceremony were NJHS sponsor, teacher Amy Harmon, and student officers Kaitlyn Steinhiser (President), Julia Wahl (Vice President), Madlen Farless (Secretary) and Nikki Pomeroy and Kylie Filipiak (Treasurers). Readers taking part included Sydney Kohn (Scholarship), Cody Roach (Service), Kylie Filipiak (Leadership), River Richardson (Character) and Dalin McCully (Citizenship).

Several eighth graders also received special awards during the induction ceremony. They included: Coleton Bailey and Sara Siegmund (Character), Haley Buchanan and Miszelina Twardus (Citizenship), Megan Gushrowski and Nicole Pomeroy (Scholarship), Karmen Halfacre and Kaityln Steinhiser (Leadership) and Michael Kring and Allyson Richards (Service).

Barker National Junior Honor Society members performed more than 2,100 hours of community service over the past year, most of them exceeding the chapter’s minimum service requirement of 30 hours.
