Barker Mansion to host Concert on July12, 2015

Concert-Barker-Mansion-2015Selections from Carousel, West Side Story, Mozart and more will be featured in a concert at Michigan City’s Barker Mansion on Sunday, July 12 at 3 pm. Summer concerts organized by local musician Lee Meyers have become an annual tradition at Barker Mansion. This year’s concert takes place in the formal outdoor gardens, though an indoor space will be used in the event of rain. Cost is $5 per person and light refreshments will be available. Chairs will be set up, but the public is welcome to bring blankets for lounging on the lawn.

Meyers has called upon the talents of local musicians to organize an entertaining program for this Sunday. The program includes an ensemble of ten string players plus keyboard and the women of vocal trio Back Porch Swing. In addition to Meyers, others offering their musical talents at the concert will be Dan McNabb, Deborah Beien, Lisa Schwingendorf, Sue Cassler, Sara Miller, Esther Fox, Nic Orbovich, Nancy Kahn, Betty Hatfield, Lena Levi, Connie Hendricks, Steve Gruoner, Judith Sawyier, and Josh DeFries.

The Barker Mansion is located at 631 Washington Street in Michigan City, IN. The 38-room mansion was built by freight car industrialist and philanthropist John H. Barker in 1905. Aside from the concert, guided tours of the mansion are offered Monday through Friday at 10 am, 11:30 am, and 1 pm. Additionally, tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 12 pm and 2 pm. Cost for a tour is $5 per adult and $2 per child. Reservations are not necessary for regular tours.
