Back to School Blues? Volunteer Your Time at Meals on Wheels of NWI

Meals-on-WheelsSometimes having your children go back to school in the summer/fall means it can get quiet at home. Why not consider volunteering to deliver meals in your community? Meals on Wheels offers volunteer opportunities delivering meals in your own community Monday through Friday during the late morning and noon hour. Why not join us for new volunteer training/orientation on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at 10:00am, or on Thursday, September 22, 1:00 pm? Training is held in our Community Room at 8446 Virginia Street, Merrillville. We are currently recruiting drivers/delivery volunteers in the Hammond and Lake Station communities.

There are 8 routes in Hammond and one in Lake Station. Why not join your neighbors and make a difference in not only our client’s day but your’s too? Each day, volunteers assist in the delivery of more than 1,500 meals throughout Lake County. According to Joan Vith, Volunteer Manager, “volunteers are critical to helping us provide proper nutrition to those in need throughout Lake County. We recruit new drivers to assist us in the Hammond and Lake Station communities as many of our drivers are “snow birds”, and will be out of town during the winter months.”

Interested candidates will have an opportunity to tour the facility and ask questions about Meals on Wheels and the volunteer opportunities in our kitchen and office too. If you would be interested in doing a “ride-along” as a driver before committing to volunteer, please call Joan at 756-3663. We will set up a “ride-along” and see if the timing works for your schedule.
