Due to the community’s positive response to the hospital’s first Mammogram & More special event held in June, Northwest Health – La Porte will be hosting another Mammogram Marathon from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022 at the hospital. During this special event, woman age 40 or older receiving their annual screening mammogram that day
will be offered a bit of fun and extra pampering with complimentary treats, mini-manicures and mini-massages.

“We know that mammograms are the best method to detect breast cancer early, when it’s easier to treat,” said Matthew Shebel, director of diagnostic imaging. “Today, thanks to early detection and treatment advances, more women are surviving breast cancer and living longer, healthier lives.”

To participate in the Mammogram Marathon, an order from a physician or qualified healthcare provide is not required, but the patient must provide a provider name when an appointment is made. If the patient does not have a provider, a list will be provided for selection. All mammogram reports will be sent to the patient as well as her provider. The patient’s insurance will be charged and insurance typically only covers one mammogram per year.

For women of average risk, the American College of Radiology recommends annual mammograms starting at age 40, with no upper limit as long as the woman is in good health. Different guidelines apply to women at higher risk.

Northwest Health – La Porte is nationally recognized as a Breast Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety.

According to the ACR, the breast imaging services are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, breast MRI and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

Registration is required for the Mammogram Marathon. To register, call 219-326-2444 to schedule your mammogram.
