Baby Bottle Ministry Feeds St. Monica Home in 2016

Franciscan-Baby-Bottle-Ministry-Feeds-St-Monica-Home-in-2016St. Monica Home, for the fourth straight year, received funds recently collected through the Holy Name Catholic Church in Cedar Lake Baby Bottle Ministry. Parishioners were given baby bottles in October and asked to bring them back, filled with donations, which totaled $1,500, in December. More than 500 pounds of change was collected, not including paper currency and checks. Pastor Ed Tlucek encourages the congregation to participate. Accepting the donation is TaShena Melton, center, St. Monica Home manager.

Parishioner Sandy Lewis, left, has been involved in raising money for St. Monica for more than 10 years. Melton thanked Lewis and parishioner Kate Carr and said the money will be used to purchase such necessities as linens, bouncing seats and toys. Located on the Franciscan St. Margaret Health-Dyer campus, St. Monica, since 1994, has offered a medically sound and emotionally healthy residential environment for women aged 12 to 21, who are awaiting the birth of a child or have recently given birth. Residents, whose average length of stay is nine months, learn positive relationships and parenting skills, under the guidance of resident advisers.
