The Michigan City Mainstreet Association is pleased to present the Taste of Michigan City on Friday August 1 from 4- 10 p.m. and August 2 from noon to 10 p.m. in conjunction with the First Friday Artwalk in the Uptown Arts District on August 1, 2014 from 5 - 8 p.m. Additionally, Rally to the Taste, a bicycle road rally, will take place Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
The Taste of Michigan City will host over 25 local restaurants featuring delicious flavors from a variety of cultures, including Jamaican, Spanish, Japanese, Mediterranean, & American as well as desserts and ice cream. The vendors will be spread down Franklin Street from 6th to 8th streets.
On Friday, visitors can enjoy the First Friday Artwalk from 5-8 p.m. along with live music by The Muddsharks from 4-6 p.m. and 80's Enough from 7-10 p.m. and of course "tastes" and local brew and wine garden. Bring your friends and family uptown and get down!
The August Art Walk will have over 15 downtown merchants and galleries featuring art of differing mediums. Check out the Lubeznik Center's Invasive Species, Transformation, Aquatic Kaledioscope, and Minimalisn: Images of California Shorelines; a walk through the beautiful gardens at Barker Mansion; Painter/Sculptor Brabant Lenting at his studio; Opening of "We're Gonna Roll" at Walnut Ink Projects; Southern Shore Art's - Flashback: 1970s; Nature's Whimsy Barb Balis at the Framing Station, Artists Jenny Trainor and Dorothy Sheehan at Beach Bum Jewels and many, many more.
Rally to the Taste, our first ever bicycle road rally, begins at 9:30, with check in starting an hour earlier. The rally includes a scavenger hunt where you will follow clues and take a picture at various destinations. It will also be timed, teams start at intervals. The ride is approximately 30-35 miles. There is a Family Scavenger Hunt and will be about 5 miles. Prizes will be awarded. Register online at www.uptownartsdistrict.org.
On Saturday, the entertainment and fun begins at noon with Flatt Baroque playing from 12-2:30pm, 5 Guys Named Moe from 3-6:30 p.m., and following the Super Boat Grand Prix Parade, Nawty from 7-10 p.m.. Come out and enjoy all the food, entertainment, parade and local brew and wine garden. You won't want to miss it!!
The events benefit the Michigan City Mainstreet Association in its efforts to create a more revitalized downtown Michigan City.
