Art in the Sky

Some questionable weather didn’t keep the kites in the closet this weekend. It quite possibly made the 2nd Annual Kite Festival even better, with high winds coming off the lake. Last year the festival struggled to get going, with high temperatures and no wind. Today a kite flyer couldn’t have asked for a better day, and it showed. There were numerous kites in the sky today, being flown by enthusiasts of all ages.

This event is hosted in part by Joel Majot of Windsongs, a kite and air toy store in the Michigan City Riverside Marketplace. “This is the most beautiful place to have the festival, and this is the perfect day for it,” said Mr. Majot. The festival was a 2 day event, taking place in Washington Park from 11 am - 6 pm both Saturday and Sunday. It wasn’t only for spectators either; there were kites for sale for all abilities, giving everyone the opportunity to try their hand in flight.

Macy, 8 years old, said “My favorite part was that I got to buy a kite and be a part of it all. Just watching is only fun for a few minutes when you’re young like me.” It was a great place to be today, and a wonderful way to spend a cooler Sunday afternoon.
