April is 2015 National Child Abuse Prevention Month in La Porte County

family advocatesFamily Advocates has been advocating for abused and neglected children in LaPorte County for over 25 years by providing trained, screened and supervised Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers.

These CASA volunteers accompany them as they sort their way through the maze of the experience of being removed from home, becoming a ward of the state, and being placed in foster homes. They spend time with the children, getting to know them well enough to speak on their behalf in court and make recommendations to the judge about what would be in their best interest. We are asking that you consider supporting our work by becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer.

There are currently 150 children making use of our services and we have 40 active volunteers advocating for 70 of those children. This means that there are 80 children in our community waiting for someone like you to come forward, step in, and advocate for them. We at Family Advocates sincerely hope you will commit to representing one (or more) of the most vulnerable members of our community, the future of our county and country.

Our Spring training session starts on Tuesday May 19th, and will take place every Tuesday evening until Tuesday June 16th, with the last session taking place on Saturday June 20th from 9am till 4pm. For more information, and to register for CASA training, please call 219-324-3385, or e-mail: takhigbe@lpcasa.com, or visit our website: www.lpcasa.com and fill out an application form.
