Annual MC Labor Dayz Fest Plays Something for Everyone

Showcasing a variety of musical performances for their annual Labor Dayz Fest, Michigan City Summer Festivals Inc. once again provided quality entertainment for the local community on Friday, August 30th. Free to anyone interested in seeing the twirls of a parade and baton corps, or warming their ears with musical genres ranging from Polka to country, to funk and good old rock N roll, the Labor Dayz Fest offered something for every walk of life. In addition to the performances, arts and crafts booths, face painting, perfume sampling, rides and food were also available to festival goers.

We have a variety for all ages, including a Muppet show this year,” said Joe Doyle, one of the 12 board members for Michigan City Summer Festivals Inc. “There’s something for everybody,” he said.

This year’s festival included 23 groups performing on two separate stages. The lineup featured locally well-known bands such as The Together Band and The Solution. The Solution performed Friday night on the Oasis stage and was supported with enthusiasm from family members in attendance.

It’s not a funeral, it’s not a wedding, it’s a summer festival and we’re all here together and that’s a good thing,” said Ken Lungren, uncle of The Solution’s Bassist, Jason Russell. “There’s nothing like being with friends and family on the lakefront in Michigan City,” he said.

The Labor Days Fest is organized annually by Michigan City Summer Festivals Inc. A non-profit, volunteer run organization, Michigan City Summer Festivals Inc. has put on approximately 30 shows a year for over 50 years for this lakeside community. In addition to the Labor Dayz Fest, Michigan City Summer Festivals Inc. annually provides popular events such as the Fireworks and Drum and Bugle shows.

So many people today say there’s nothing to do,” said Joe Doyle. “This is why we have to have a tradition that continues on and shows what can be done when good people work together and enjoy life,” he said.
