Alzheimer’s Association to host Free Education Programs

AlzheimersAssociationThe Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter will be hosting two sessions of “Know the 10 Signs.” The first will take place on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., at Westchester Library - Thomas Branch, located at 200 W. Indiana Ave. in Chesterton. The second session will be on Monday, Sept. 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Hammond Public Library, located at 564 State St. in Hammond.

“Know the 10 Signs” is an introductory program that provides attendees with an understanding of the difference between age-related memory loss and Alzheimer’s and what to do if they or someone they know has signs of the disease.

There are no fees to attend these programs, but registration is requested by contacting the Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline at 800.272.3900.

Today, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, including 100,000 Hoosiers. Alzheimer’s disease is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. In 2014, the direct costs to American society of caring for those with Alzheimer’s will total an estimated $214 billion, including $150 billion in costs to Medicare and Medicaid.
