Alley-oop for autism

In between the Chesterton High School (CHS) girls and boys basketball double-header against Hobart on Tuesday, January 14, special needs students will participate in the 6th annual Alley-Oop for Autism-Bounce Out the Stigma.

Two teams of five special needs students will be playing a 10-minute game of basketball to raise money for autism. This event is hosted each year to raise awareness for autism as well as raise money for the CHS Peer Leader Scholarship and the local charity MAAP Autism Spectrum Coalition.

CHS students will be selling T-shirts for $15 each to raise money as well as accepting donations at the event to assist with this cause.

"Our overall goal is to raise money for autism and have fun that night," said Jessica Evans, special education teacher at Chesterton High School. "The students participating are learning about basketball, different plays and working as a team."

The CHS varsity girls game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Alley-Oop for Autism game.
